Dermalux LED Light Therapy
Standalone (Cleanse + 30 Minutes): £35 | Add-On to Another Treatment: £15
LED Light Therapy is a non-invasive, pain-free treatment that delivers targeted wavelengths of clinical-grade light directly into the layers of the skin to trigger specific biological responses at a cellular level. Unlike UV light, which damages the skin, LED light is entirely safe and works with your skin's own natural repair and regeneration mechanisms.
Different wavelengths address different concerns. Red light stimulates fibroblast activity, boosting collagen and elastin production to firm and restore the skin. Blue light targets and destroys the bacteria responsible for acne and congestion. Near-infrared light penetrates most deeply, reducing inflammation and accelerating tissue repair — making it an exceptionally powerful add-on following treatments such as microneedling or chemical peels, where the skin's healing response is already activated.
For optimal results, we often recommend a course of sessions tailored to your specific skin goals. Because LED works harmoniously with other clinical procedures, it is frequently integrated as an add-on to microneedling or chemical peels to accelerate your healing response and enhance overall radiance.
At SKIN CARD Clinic, we prioritise evidence-based results, which is why we exclusively use the Dermalux Flex MD. This is a Medically CE certified system recognised for its ability to treat clinical indications including acne, psoriasis, wound healing, and musculoskeletal pain.
- Clinically Proven Wavelengths: While many devices use generic light, the Dermalux Flex MD delivers optimised, industry-leading wavelengths—Blue (415nm), Red (633nm), and Near-Infrared (830nm)—which are scientifically evidenced to trigger specific, beneficial responses in the skin.
- Superior Power & Efficacy: Independent testing has demonstrated that the Dermalux Flex MD is significantly more powerful than many competitors, ensuring consistent performance and measurable results.
- Safety & Quality: The device is heat-free, chemical-free, and non-invasive, with a unique design that ensures optimal proximity to the skin for maximum light absorption, all while maintaining the highest safety standards for eye protection and hygiene.
Pre-Care Instructions
LED Light Therapy requires very minimal preparation. Because it is entirely non-invasive and suitable for all skin types, there are no significant restrictions before your appointment:
- On the Day: Please arrive with a clean face, free of makeup and heavy skincare products, so the light can penetrate the skin without any barrier.
- Eye Protection: Protective goggles will be provided during your treatment. Please do not remove them during the session.
- Recent Treatments: If you have recently had a chemical peel or microneedling session, LED is an ideal complement to support your skin's healing response. Please inform us at your appointment so we can select the most appropriate wavelength.
- Please Inform Us: Let us know if you are pregnant, have epilepsy, or are taking any photosensitising medications, as these may affect your suitability for treatment.
After-Care Protocols
LED Light Therapy carries zero downtime and requires no special aftercare. However, to maintain the best results and protect your skin:
- Sun Protection: Apply SPF 50 before leaving the clinic and continue to wear it daily. While LED itself does not increase photosensitivity, maintaining consistent UV protection is a fundamental part of any skin health routine.
- Skincare: You can apply your normal skincare routine immediately after your session. If you have had LED following another clinical treatment, follow the aftercare protocol for that treatment as advised by your therapist.
- Consistency: The most significant results from LED come through consistent, regular use. Your therapist will advise on an optimal treatment frequency based on your skin goals.
Frequently Asked Questions
What skin concerns does LED light therapy treat?
LED light therapy addresses a wide range of concerns depending on the wavelength used. Red light targets signs of ageing, stimulates collagen production, and accelerates cellular repair. Blue light destroys the acne-causing bacteria Cutibacterium acnes, making it highly effective for active breakouts and congested skin. Near-infrared light penetrates deeper to reduce inflammation and support tissue healing, making it an excellent complement to treatments such as microneedling and chemical peels.
Is LED light therapy safe for all skin types?
Yes. LED light therapy is one of the most universally safe and well-tolerated treatments available. It uses non-thermal, non-UV light and does not damage the skin's surface. It is suitable for all skin types, tones, and ages, and carries no risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It is also safe to use on sensitive or reactive skin that may not tolerate more intensive treatments.
How many sessions will I need?
For targeted skin concerns, a course of sessions is recommended for optimal results. LED is most powerful when used consistently and is frequently combined with other clinical treatments such as facials, microneedling, or chemical peels to enhance and accelerate results. Your therapist will advise on the most effective treatment plan during your consultation.
Does it hurt and is there any downtime?
LED light therapy is completely painless. You may feel a gentle warmth during the treatment, but there is no discomfort, redness, or irritation. There is absolutely zero downtime — you can return to your normal routine, apply makeup, and go about your day immediately after your session.
